Charles Mix County is located in south central South Dakota along the Missouri River.  The county is nearly 100 miles in length.  Municipalities within the county include: Academy, Dante, Geddes, Lake Andes, Marty, Pickstown, Platte, Ravinia, and Wagner.  The Charles Mix County Courthouse is located in Lake Andes, SD. The first county courthouse was located in Wheeler in 1881. In the 1950`s when the Fort Randall reservoir was built, Wheeler was flooded. The current building was designed by architect William L. Steele and is a four story building. The courthouse was built in 1917 at a cost of $150,000.


The Auditor and Equalization Offices will be closed Wednesday and Thursday, October 20-21, for an Election Workshop. 

Remember 2nd half taxes are due October 29th in person, if done through mail they need to be posted marked by October 31st. 


November Car license Renewals: Due to a New Motor Vehicle System Release it is Highly recommended to get your tags/title work done early. We cannot guarantee we will be able to do any transactions until Early December! Sorry for Any Inconvenience



Notice Effective June 1st, 2021: If you are a nonresident wanting to use Charles Mix County for your titling and licensing needs. You will be required to come in person for all of your titling transactions.
